Facing Theft or Larceny Charges? We’ve Got Your Back.
A theft or larceny mark—like shoplifting or bigger property crimes—can cast a shadow, making jobs or trust harder to come by. It might mean time away, fines, or losing rights like owning a gun. But it doesn’t have to stick. Chambers Law knows how to spot the angles that lighten your load—maybe it was a mix-up or the facts don’t add up. We’ll aim to clear your name or soften the outcome.

What’s Considered Theft and Property Crime in SC?
South Carolina calls theft “larceny,” and it’s all about taking something that’s not yours—property crimes big or small. The stakes rise with the value or your past:
- Petit Larceny: Small stuff, $2,000 or less. It’s a misdemeanor—up to 30 days away if it sticks.
- Grand Larceny: Bigger takes—over $2,000. A felony, up to 5 years if it’s under $10,000, or 10 years if more.
- Shoplifting: Common around here—grabbing store goods without paying. Ranges from 30 days (under $2,000) to 10 years (over $10,000), depending on the haul.
Shoplifting’s tricky—hiding items, eating snacks without paying, or swapping tags can trip you up. But maybe you didn’t mean it—an item slipped by, or someone else stashed it. We’ll make sure your side’s heard.

Burglary: A Different Property Puzzle
Burglary (S.C. Code § 16-11-311 to 313) is sneaking into a place to take something—even if you don’t. It’s about intent and entry:
- First Degree: The big one—nighttime, weapons, or hurting someone. A felony, 15 years minimum, up to life.
- Second Degree: Violent (up to 15 years) or not (up to 10 years)—still a felony.
- Third Degree: Basic break-in intent—up to 5 years, or 10 for a second go.
They’ve got to prove you meant it and got in. Chambers Law uses that to challenge weak spots and keep your record clean.
